VERNON — November 6, 2026. California reports that crews have remediated 6,495 residential parcels around the former Exide battery-recycling plant. The announcement was issued Friday; the cleanup snapshot is dated October 23.
Work completed and work remaining
The governor’s office also lists 7,818 parkways, 12 schools, 68 childcare centers and five parks as cleaned. Residential remediation continues. The figures describe cumulative work, not properties cleaned today.
For Vernon and surrounding Southeast Los Angeles communities, the distinction matters: the announcement documents progress but does not establish that every affected residential property has been remediated.
Where residents can respond
The Department of Toxic Substances Control’s Exide Cleanup Feedback Management System allows residents to follow progress and submit feedback.
